“Where affordable meets healthy!”

PROJECT OVERVIEW

A mobile application designed to help underprivileged individuals gain easier access to healthy food locations so as to reduce food insecurity and promote healthy eating.

WHAT’S THE ISSUE?

Underprivileged individuals face financial constraints and often lack access to affordable, nutritious food, leading to food insecurity and health problems like obesity and diabetes. Limited access to healthy food options, such as food deserts and lack of transportation, further exacerbate the issue. We need to design a solution that will provide this population with more access to reasonably priced, wholesome food choices.

Target Audience

The Underprivileged: Low Income Families, Marginalized Groups, People with Disabilities, etc.

Goal

To provide them with easy access to healthy food options that are affordable and inclusive of their wants and needs.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

How might we create a better way for underprivileged individuals to have increased access to affordable and healthy food options so as to address the problem of food insecurity?

Before that, lets start with…

USER RESEARCH

(Internet Research)

Here’s What Was Found!

  • The pandemic worsened food insecurity among families with children and marginalized groups who were already facing disproportionately high levels of hunger. (Feeding America)

  • Over 42 million people in the United States, including 13 million children, were food insecure in 2020 which increased by 7 million since 2019. (Feeding America)

  • Food deserts are prevalent in low-income and minority areas causing accessibility issues for underprivileged individuals (USDA)

  • In 2020, 45% of households experiencing food insecurity said they had to decide between paying food expenses and other essentials like housing and healthcare. (Feeding America)

Pain Points

STATISTICS

USER PERSONAS

Having easier access to affordable food options could positively affect the lives of these two individuals. In an effort to further comprehend their needs and come up with reasonable solutions, we empathized with them to identify their pain points and potential gains that could result from our end product.

As a team, we decided to primarily focus on Savannah Davis when brainstorming design solutions but still kept in mind the pain & gains from Evelyn Green.

IDEATION STAGE

During our brainstorming session, we took into account the general pain points and that of our user personas and came up with several ideas based on them.

Design Solutions

Key Features

We identified and emphasized essential features that will shape the structure of our product as we proceed further into the design process.

Action Plan

Here’s what we decided to do!

User Journey Map

This is how we envisioned Savannah Davis would navigate through our product.

STARTING THE DESIGN

Using the ideas we brainstormed, we sketched out our wireframes to give us a clear picture of what we’re going for.

FINISHING THE DESIGN

Before beginning the prototyping process, we tested the practicality of our design using high fidelity mockups we made from our digital wireframes.
